Clinical presentation:
Mature adult with episodes of intermittent lower abdominal pain.

The sigmoid colon shows a prominence of coarse transverse folds that have obscured the normal haustral pattern with visible diverticula on both sides. There is a narrowed recto-sigmoid portion in this single view without disturbance of the mucosal folds and the temporary appearance was due to contraction (and is usually abolished by anti-peristaltic agents).
